Either there are two completely different Barack Obamas, or, in his first year in office, during a time of unprecedented national crisis, we conservative pundits are attacking our President no matter what he does or doesn’t do. And that would make us assholes.

If that’s the case—and I have no doubt it is to some very small extent, considering the way politics often works—then welcome to conservatives’ world during the 8 Bush years.

Hello?!

Except that the Democrats didn’t remotely oppose Bush in the same manner as the Republicans are opposing Obama. Some of Bush’s worst ideas got genuine bipartisan support. Iraq. The Military Commissions Act. The Patriot Act.

I agree. As I told someone else today, I don’t hate Obama personally. I don’t think he’s a moron. I disagree with his policies and his political philosophy. I don’t think he’s evil and out to destroy everything good. You can’t say the same thing for the Angry Left and their rabid hatred for Bush as a person.

I realize that these perspectives are often a function of one’s political sympathies, but I think the pure venom spewed at Bush by many on the far left was shocking. There will always be some crazies on the right who do the same with Obama, but it was far less prevalent, and neither I nor anyone I know condones it despite our disagreement with the current administration.
