Radical Rights
sds:
Rather than respond to all the points in his post, I’ll just highlight a few of the more radical ones and let them speak for themselves.
- …a fetus is just as conscious and capable of suffering as my sperm cells. It is actually much less capable of suffering than any animal you’ve consumed. I mean, as far as being a violent action with a “victim” abortion is just as violent as taking antibiotics or harvesting vegetables. Victimization implies that the fetus is suffering, which it is not.
- …the biological facts of our species don’t have ethical significance. To give preference to the life of a being simply because that being is a member of our species is just like racists who give preference to those who are members of their race. Put quite simply, a fetus is not a person because it is not capable of rationality or self-consciousness. It is just as capable of suffering, consciousness, and rational thinking as a sperm cell, and much less conscious than the many animals you probably consume.
Besides highlighting that I accidentally repeated myself, you aren’t portraying anything wrong with my argument.
Or, to quote you, “Good answer. That really engaged the discussion and convinced me.”
I’d be happy to continue a civil discussion via email, if you’d like.
